The Joys Of Being Single On Valentine’s Day

Single this Valentine’s Day? Discover the many positives that come with singledom as well as the reasons why being single on Valentine’s Day is actually a massive bonus!

It’s February and the shops are filled with red roses, luxurious chocolates and gushy cards…it can only mean one thing, Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is the time of year when people typically recognise and express their love and appreciation to those closest to them. But for many single individuals, February the 14th can be an unwelcome reminder that they are spending Valentine’s Day alone, which for some of us, can be daunting.

It doesn’t have to feel this way.

Research suggests that more people than ever are single, and it’s becoming something people are proud of rather than ashamed of.

Society has led us to believe that marriage, children and a house is the be-all and end-all, something to strive for, the ultimate ‘happily ever after’.

But times are changing, and marriage is no longer being seen as a key part of adulthood. A 2017 US census report even revealed that over half of a nationally representative sample (55%), didn’t consider marriage as a criterion for becoming an adult!

Which is why single life should be as equally celebrated as married life!

Your time being single is invaluable, it’s when you can afford to put your needs first, you can ultimately learn a lot about yourself through doing so.

Studies have shown that people who remain single develop more confidence in their own opinions and undergo more personal growth than those who marry, demonstrating how single life can work wonders for self-development!

If you still aren’t convinced by spending V-Day alone – here are 5 reasons why being single on February the 14th can be something you celebrate.

Zero Disappointment

Some people put unnecessary pressure on their significant other to organise the perfect date or buy the best gift. However, a lot of the time this just leads to disappointment. Chances are your favourite restaurant will be fully booked or you’ll get a table and it will be so busy that it won’t be nearly as romantic as you’d hoped.

No Stress

On the flip side, you won’t have to spend time and energy worrying about planning a big romantic gesture. Plus, I think we can all agree that Valentine’s Day puts unnecessary pressure on many of us to organise the perfect date and there’s nothing less romantic than forced romance.

Your Bank Account Won’t Suffer

With the average price of a dozen roses costing £74.70, Valentine’s Day can create a dent in your bank account, and just after Christmas, which is an expensive time of the year. So, you can either appreciate the fact you won’t be splurging on a gift which will only survive a week, or you can spend the extra cash on yourself!

Why not treat yourself to The Ginkgo Hair Care Plan which has proven results to make your hair feel thicker and look healthier. There is no better feeling than waking up to a Happy, Healthy Hair Day! Your hair is after all your crowning glory.

You Can Spend Time With Friends or Family

Valentine’s Day doesn’t necessarily have to be about expressing love and appreciation for a romantic partner. Instead, it can be a fantastic opportunity to spend quality time with your nearest and dearest. For instance, cook a meal for your parents or go out for a few drinks with your friends (chances are you’ll have more fun than the happy couples in those busy overpriced restaurants anyway).

You’ll have more time for “me, myself and I”

Self-care is the perfect opportunity for some much needed ‘me time’, but it’s often something we place at the bottom of our priority list. Use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to do something YOU want to do. Whether it’s making your favourite meal, watching wall-to-wall Netflix or having a bath and an early night, utilise this time to appreciate and reward yourself for, well, being you!

Don’t forget, Valentine’s Day is just another day and in 24 hours it will all be over! Whether you’re spending it alone, with friends or with your significant other I hope it’s a day filled with joy!
