Milestone Birthdays: Simone Thomas Reflects on her Health, Wellbeing and Mindset

Firstly, we’d like to wish Simone a very Happy Birthday!

Simone Thomas is turning 40 this year, a milestone birthday. She reflects on how her health, wellbeing and mindset has changed through the decades. Every birthday sparks reflection on our last trip around the sun.

What were your favourite experiences during your 20s and 30s? What was most important to you?

Being honest, I didn’t really take care of my health in my 20s. I wasn’t looking at what was in my food, and I consumed a lot of fizzy drinks, sweets, crisps, and alcohol. It wasn’t until my late 20s, after experiencing various health issues, that I started to educate myself on nutrition and made changes.

It was around then that I stopped eating foods high in sugar and salt, which made my skin feel so much better, my energy improved, and my stomach pains eased.

In my 30s, I qualified in hair loss and nutrition and started introducing more positive changes to my diet, fitness, and lifestyle.

Eating organic, no longer consuming processed foods, exercising at least four times a week, and taking time out for me made such a huge difference.

How did you define wellness back then? What practices did you prioritise?

I played a lot of tennis in my 20s but back then fitness and health weren’t high on my priorities. When I moved to the coast, I started spending more time hiking and running as well as doing pilates classes. Over the past 13 years, I’ve invested a lot more into what I eat and how I treat my body.

This, and my experience helping my clients in the clinics, is what led me to write Healthy Hair Happy Body, which is now a bestselling book! I really wanted to inspire people to put their wellness first because when you do, the results are amazing.

What key piece of advice would you give to people in their 20s? And their 30s?

Invest in your health as early as possible, preferably from your mid-20s onwards, and stay active.

We can’t stop ourselves from aging, but we can take steps to age gracefully. Although signs of age won’t show up until our 30s and 40s, ensuring we can be our best selves when we are old starts when we’re young.

Staying active is hugely important. Increasing your activity level can help fight the effects of aging and reduce stresses of everyday life.

It’s also essential to take care of yourself from the inside by supplementing your diet with collagen and probiotics. Our SkinQuencher and Everyday Wellness capsules are fantastic for this. Taken alongside a balanced diet, they can make a huge difference to how you look and feel from within.

What trends have you noticed in the wider wellness world during this time? Which ones do you think are here to stay?

Health has always been important, but since lockdown there’s been a huge increase in interest around how we can live our best lives and take care of ourselves.

Women have become more vocal about issues such as fertility, menopause, and related hair loss, which is super important, and we definitely need to spread more awareness about these.

It’s also great to see men talking more openly about emotions and anxiety.

I think we’re moving forward into a world where we’re less afraid to bring up our issues and feelings, and wellness is becoming more about real people in real life situations.

It’s fantastic to see and I’m excited by where this is taking us!

What do you look forward to as you turn 40?

There isn’t one thing I’m looking forward to as I feel amazing at this moment in time, in my head, my heart and my body.

What makes me feel most complete is being able to do more with my boys. They’re not babies anymore and I love our time together, the conversations we have and adventures we go on. It’s wonderful watching them grow.

Personally, I’m feeling more at peace with everything life throws at us. The past five years, I’ve seen wrinkles appear in my skin, but I know that my lifestyle, diet, and environment is having a positive impact on me regardless.

For me, the future is about everything I have now: love, balance, laughter, friendships, and awareness of what is going on in my body. I couldn’t ask for more.
