There’s more to wedding hair than simply the style you choose. Following a good hair care routine in the lead up to your wedding day is vital for achieving the luscious locks every bride dreams of. Read on to discover how to ensure your hair looks its best for your wedding day.

Essential Hair Care for Brides

When it comes to hair care, there are three main considerations: hair strands, scalp health and, most importantly, nutrition. Whilst caring for the hairs on your head is important, healthy hair begins within.

Here are our top tips for taking care of your hair from the inside and out.

Nutrition

Your hair growth cycle, which keeps your locks shiny, thick, and strong, relies on proper nutrition.

That’s because hair begins growing from follicles in your scalp, that derive nutrients from your blood to create more hair cells and to promote growth. What you eat affects the quality and strength of your hair.

Tip #1: Take the right vitamins and minerals

Vitamins and minerals provide a variety of benefits to your overall wellbeing.

B vitamins are essential for strong, thick hair, particularly biotin (vitamin B7), which helps to increase the thickness of your hair follicles and helps to boost growth. Biotin also helps to break down the fatty oil in sebum (which causes dandruff!) and targets conditions that can damage the scalp, like dermatitis or eczema.

To top up your biotin intake, add more peanuts, almonds, walnuts, eggs, chicken, kidney, and leafy greens to your diet.

Tip #2: Supplement your diet

A great way to ensure you’re getting the right nutrition your hair needs is to take supplements alongside following a balanced diet.

Biotin Brilliance has been expertly formulated to help strengthen your hair, protect your scalp, and to promote healthy hair growth.

As part of the Biotin Hair Care Plan, it combines with Super Greens and Everyday Wellness to help balance your gut and support cardiovascular health.

Prepping for her wedding, former TOWIE star and our new brand ambassador Jessica Wright has been taking the Biotin Hair Care Plan to promote healthy hair growth and to protect her skin from flare ups of psoriasis.

“They’ve changed my life”, says Jess. “To look good on the outside, things have got to be great within. I’ve never felt better. I also feel I’m looking more youthful!”

For best results, it’s a good idea to start making dietary and supplement changes at least 3 months ahead of your wedding day.

Scalp care

The health of your scalp determines the health of your hair.

Like the rest of your skin, your scalp needs care and attention. Keeping it balanced and in pristine condition can support hair growth and prevent any unwanted issues, like dandruff. As well as consuming more biotin in your diet, outer care can help protect your scalp and hair.

Tip #3: Shampoo less often

Yes, you read that right! Too much shampooing strips your hair of natural oils that protect your scalp from infection. This causes the hair follicles to over produce to keep it hydrated, resulting in oilier hair.

Try washing your hair 2 - 3 times a week, tops.

Tip #4: Use a scalp scrub

Like the scrubs you use on your face, scalp scrubs help to exfoliate the skin beneath your hair, removing excess oil and skin cells to boost health. Gentle massaging with a scalp scrub can also increase blood flow to your scalp, helping to deliver more nutrients to your hair follicles and promote hair growth.

The hairs on your head

Last but by no means least, how you take care of the hairs on your head will help you to achieve luscious locks on your wedding day.

Tip #5: Deep hydration

Your hair, like your skin, needs moisturising to keep it in top condition. Whilst it’s important to shampoo less, don’t skip the conditioner! Avoid applying conditioner too near your roots as this can weigh your hair down, making it look dull and lifeless. Instead focus on the roots and middle section.

Weekly hair masks are also a great addition to your hair care regime. Discover our simple, DIY hair masks here.

Tip #6: Ease off the heat treatments

When you have your hair done for the big day, it’s likely your stylist will blow dry, straighten and/or curl your hair using heat. To help keep your hair healthy and hydrated, steer clear of using too much heat and hair tools in the run up to your wedding as these will dry out and damage your hair.

Beauty begins within. Whether you’re the bride, a bridesmaid or a loved one attending the ceremony, the earlier you start your hair care routine the better.  If you want to improve your hair strength and quality for your upcoming wedding, Simone Thomas Wellness can help.
