Lady brushing her hair, suffering from alopecia

Alopecia and How to Treat It

As many of us know, alopecia is a devastating experience.

Alopecia, the medical term for hair loss, manifests as a number of conditions. Like your skin and nails, your hair goes through a finely tuned cycle of growth and rest, which can be destabilised by environmental factors such as lifestyle and stress.

It’s estimated that around 65,000 people in the U.K. are affected by alopecia. Whilst alopecia can affect anyone at any age, not everyone who suffers from it loses all their hair. However, no matter our age, hair loss often has a negative impact on both our physical and mental wellbeing.

Developing a deep understanding of these different conditions has enabled Simone Thomas Wellness to produce effective alopecia treatments formulated with natural ingredients.

Types of alopecia

There are several kinds of alopecia, all of which include some level of hair loss.

Androgenetic alopecia...

...commonly known as male or female pattern hair loss, is the most common type of alopecia. In men, hair falls out in a well-defined pattern, such as receding from the hairline. In women, hair usually thins all over the head.

Alopecia areata...

...is thought to be an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakes hair follicles for belligerents and attacks them. This causes hair to fall out in patches, usually on the scalp but also other parts of the body where hair can grow. Alopecia areata can progress from patchy alopecia to alopecia totalis (total hair loss on the scalp) or even alopecia universalis (total hair loss across the whole body).

Primary scarring alopecia...

...also known as cicatricial alopecia, takes a number of forms depending on where it is on the body. Scarring alopecia occurs when the hair follicle is destroyed and replaced by scar tissue, hence the hair is unable to grow back.

Telogen effluvium...

...is a scalp disorder where the hair thins or sheds excessively. This happens when more hairs than usual enter the telogen phase of their life cycle, the resting phase of the hair follicle when hairs fall out. This can be as a result of improper nutrition, stress, hormonal upsets and, commonly, pregnancy.

Traction alopecia...

...is a when hair falls out after being pulled in the same direction repeatedly. This can happen due to the strain and stress caused by tight hairstyles and extensions.

Trichotillomania...

is a psychological condition characterised by compulsive hair pulling.

Effective alopecia treatment

Simone Thomas Wellness has helped many people treat alopecia by analysing their nutrient intake. An effective solution for people suffering with hair loss is The Ginkgo Hair Care Plan, to be taken daily whilst following a healthy diet and lifestyle..

The Ginkgo Hair Care Plan by Simone Thomas Wellness for hair loss

Ginkgo biloba is a powerful botanical which contains antioxidants that can nourish damaged hair follicles and provide protection from different toxins that further damage the hair. It has anti-inflammatory properties that can support the healing of an inflamed scalp or weak hair follicles. Ginkgo biloba can also improve blood circulation to the scalp, supply essential nutrients to the hair follicles and reduce skin inflammation.

Ginkgo biloba can improve our body’s response to stress and anxiety, helping to reduce stress-related hair loss.

The Ginkgo Hair Care Plan has been carefully formulated with high strength ginkgo biloba and B complex vitamins, which also play an important role in revitalising and protecting our hair. The Plan contains Ginkgo Biloba capsules, Super Green capsules, and Everyday Wellness capsules, which supply a carefully selected blend of vitamins, iodine, live cultures, and botanicals, and is highly beneficial to those who are suffering with alopecia.

The Ginkgo Hair Care Plan (and our Biotin Hair Care Plan) are certified by the Vegan Society, and our Super Greens in The Biotin Hair Care Plan and Ginkgo Hair Care Plan are registered by the Soil Association.
