From naked workouts to corporate wellness, we’ve researched the upcoming health and wellness trends that are set to make a big impact in 2020.

2019 was the year of intermittent fasting, the keto diet and online workout guides - but what’s 2020 got in store for us?

Predictions can be difficult to make, especially in a world where technology and social media consistently exposes us to the ‘latest and greatest’ trends.  However, after analysing last year’s trends and conducting much research we’ve predicted which health and wellness trends are set to be popular in 2020.

The following list is based on current trends which are showing no signs of disappearing anytime soon as well as new innovations that are likely to grow in popularity - enjoy!

Corporate Wellness

During 2019 there have been more open discussions about mental health, with people now making a conscious effort to prioritise their mental wellbeing.

This year Capita published the ‘Workplace Wellness Report’ which revealed 47% of employees believe it’s normal to feel anxious and stressed at work. However, statistics like this have triggered more businesses to implement corporate wellness strategies to help their employees.

These strategies use exercise classes, healthy snack options, support programs and other techniques to help improve the mental wellbeing of employees - something that will develop and grow throughout 2020.

Naked Workouts

I thought that would get your attention! Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean stripping off at your next spin class but instead implementing a ‘digital detox’ during your workouts.

Fitness trackers quickly became all the rage this year, as they make it easy to track everything from the steps you take to your heart rate and even the quality of your sleep!

However, in 2020 we will see a shift towards more mindful exercise where we are less fixated on the numbers and instead, are more conscious of how our bodies are feeling. This will enable us to become more in tune with how our bodies react to exercise, both physically and mentally.

Eating For Biodiversity

We are becoming more and more aware that our food choices have a huge impact on the world around us. Throughout 2019, there has been a conscious shift towards more sustainable eating with plant-based diets and plastic waste reduction receiving a lot of attention this year. There is also an increasing number of delicious yet healthy snack options becoming available to us, so there's no reason why we can't indulge whilst still living a sustainable and healthy lifestyle.

Amazingly, over the past 4 years, the number of vegans in Great Britain has quadrupled. However, in 2020 it’ll also be important to consider biodiversity when selecting the foods we eat.

Large plantations of popular food staples like rice and wheat can wipe out entire species. Luckily, Knorr and WWF are raising awareness of the importance of biodiverse foods and have even created a list of 50 crops we should eat more regularly to support this!

CBD Skincare

CBD (cannabidiol) is naturally sourced from hemp plants and is essentially a non-psychoactive strain of cannabis. CBD products have blown up within the wellness world as it has been associated with a number of health benefits including alleviating pain and reducing anxiety and depression.

CBD has now ventured into the realms of beauty and skincare. This is because CBD oil has anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce the symptoms of acne when applied to the skin. CBD is also an antioxidant, an ingredient which helps to reduce the signs of ageing.

The popularity of CBD products will continue to rise throughout 2020 in both the beauty and wellness spheres as it becomes more widely accepted and understood in mainstream culture!

There’s no doubt that the world of health and wellness is continually changing and evolving to fit the ever-changing needs of society. However, it will be interesting to see which trends remain relevant in 2020 and what new innovations take us by surprise!
