Tackling Covid Hair Loss: Joyce and Angel's Transformations

A look at the unprecedented reality of pandemic-induced hair loss, and how Simone Thomas Wellness helped treat Joyce and Angel's symptoms from within.

Joyce's Story

Within a short period of time, Joyce was unfortunate enough to experience both Coronavirus and Norovirus. Having two viruses back to back will not only effect how your body functions on a day to day basis, but will also make you feel generally unwell. The virus will upset the day to day function of your gut but also of your gut microbiota which is important when it comes to your immune system, your skin and also your hair.  As the hair is not a vital organ, it simply does not receive top priority when it comes to being on the receiving end of nutrients, so it often needs extra help, especially if you aren’t even getting enough nutrients to go around to the vital functions, which come disturbed when we are under the weather or fighting infection. Having a second infection like Covid was the breaking point for the body and immune system - it was tired and just could not keep up. As a result we then experience hair loss, or in Joyce’s case, Telogen Effluvium (TE).

Telogen effluvium is a condition of temporary hair loss that usually happens after stress, a shock, or a traumatic event or even an illness such as COVID-19. The condition typically is not permanent but can often cause hair loss all over the head but in no real shedding pattern. In most cases, it won't cause people to lose all their hair, but it may become noticeably thin. Telogen Effluvium is considered, by dermatologists, the second most common form of hair loss.

When you experience stress, a traumatic event, or are recovering from an illness such as Flu or Covid, our bodies stress levels rise. Stress triggers a hormone in your body called cortisol, which is linked to the function of hair follicles. High levels of stress can cause this hormone to put your hair growth cycle into a resting phase which is why hair weakens and begins to shed. This is why so many people are currently experiencing signs of Telogen Effluvium, or hair loss, following the recent pandemic.  While Telogen Effluvium is temporary, steps need to be taken to reduce the stress in your life and maintain a healthy nutrient-dense diet to improve the condition of your scalp and encourage regrowth.

Hear what Joyce has to say about her journey:

“Pre-Norovirus and Covid, my hair was medium length, and although my hair is fine, I had lots and lots of it. Post Norovirus I was left tired and had lost just over half a stone and had very little appetite. My hair loss started about three months later, which coincided with my catching Covid. My Covid symptoms were breathlessness, tiredness, and cold-like symptoms. I felt permanently exhausted, and on top of that, I fully lost my sense of smell. My symptoms lasted about two weeks.

I started taking Simone Thomas Wellness supplements and using the special shampoo she recommended two months ago. Within a month of taking the supplements, my hair loss got less and less and now after two months, I am losing hardly any hair at all. I can safely say my hair is growing well now. The results have been gradual over the past couple of months, but as I've gone along, my hair loss is gradually reducing and it is clear that new hair is starting to grow.

I can't praise Simone Thomas enough. The supplements and advice I have had from her are second to none and I would recommend her and her products to anyone.”

Angel's Story

"It was on May 28th 2021 that I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with double Covid Pneumonia. I had 5 Remdesivir treatments and some other medications, along with Vitamins and 2 Aspirin a day. When I returned home after 5 days in the hospital, I couldn’t get out of bed for 2 weeks. I was extremely exhausted and couldn’t even stand in the shower. I had horrible pain in my ribs that felt like they were all broken. Fortunately, a new inhaler with different medication in it made that pain go away. Yet, I was very weak for another month or so.

Around the month of July, I noticed my hair was falling out by the mounds. In the shower, on my sheets, on my clothes, by the handful! I was afraid to wash my hair, so I would only wash it about every 4 days. I aways had very thick, long hair, and lots of it. Looking at the garbage cans full of my hair and bald spots on my head made me feel like I was still this very sick person.

My daughter is a cosmetologist and had me try a variety of different peptides and any other treatments we could come up with, but nothing worked. I googled hair loss from Covid, and the Simone Thomas Wellness page came up and I thought - I’m going to give it a try. I’m so happy that I did. Within about 5 days of taking the Ginkgo Hair Care Plan that was recommend by Simone, I noticed hardly any hair in the drain of the shower or hair in my brush! I couldn’t believe it. After about the 8th day - NO HAIR WAS FALLING OUT!

My hair is now growing back and it’s coming in nice and thick. I have no more bald spots. I take the trio every day and feel much better. I recommend these supplements to anyone going through a similar experience.

In December of 2021 I came down with Covid again but didn’t even know it, other than I was tired and had a runny nose! No hair loss at all. I still take the trio every day and will continue to take them, because I also overall feel better in general and I’m certain it’s because of these Supplements."

It has been so rewarding to see the progress that both Joyce and Angel have made, not only with their hair loss, but also seeing the improvements that have been made to their general wellbeing. I look forward to continue helping them both on their journeys to reaching optimal health.
