Simone Thomas shares her views on how to successfully adjust to the new normal whilst providing insights into her key learnings from lockdown

It’s safe to say that for most of us 2020 has been a roller coaster. The turn of events has transformed the way in which we interact, go about our day-to-day business, manage our health and fitness, our social lives and so much much more.

Despite its ups and downs, it’s been amazing to see the sheer strength and determination people have mustered to continue thriving in this ‘new normal’.

For many of us, the ‘new normal’ will take some time to adjust to. I have made changes to my lifestyle, many of them positive changes which I wanted to share with you:

  • Manage stress levels by making time to do something you absolutely LOVE. Whether it’s exercise, cooking, seeing friends or being creative, ensure you prioritise activities which refuel you, bring you joy and help to reduce your stress levels.
  • If you’re stuck at home, create a schedule to give your day a clear direction and purpose. Having something to work towards like small daily goals gives us an excuse to celebrate those small wins and achievements!
  • Nourish your body with whole foods. A well-balanced diet is critical to keep you fit, both physically and mentally. If you consume high levels of processed foods, your body will not be getting the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay fit and healthy.
  • If you’re struggling with your mental health please reach out. Many of us have felt some form of anxiety or depression this year so it’s important to be there for one another and talk to others when we feel we need to.

Sticking to these four tips throughout lockdown and this ‘new normal’ has helped me remain sane. It’s not always easy, but I feel incredibly lucky to have achieved many business successes this year, as well as being able to work on myself and my family.

One of my proudest moments has been seeing my products go from strength to strength and winning numerous awards during lockdown. These include the Marie Claire Hair Awards and the Beauty Shortlist Wellbeing Awards for best hair supplement!

As a salon owner, lockdown has been extremely difficult. However I believe that every obstacle presents an opportunity...so I spent my time refurbishing the Simone Thomas Wellness Salon & Hair Loss Clinic. This ensured that it was a safe and secure environment for my staff and clients when we re-opened.

Having this additional time on our hands allows us to invest in those things we may have put on hold due to our busy lifestyles. Having more time on my hands meant I began furthering my knowledge of nutrition and food types. This extensive research has even sparked an exciting new project for Simone Thomas Wellness … so watch this space!

Lockdown has taught me that you should never underestimate the power of human kindness. Life is too short not to spend it with the people you love, because in the darkest of times, they’ll be the ones to get you through.
